More About Colonel Daniel M. Welch
Colonel Daniel M. Welch United States Marine Corps Reserve is currently the General Counsel and Director of Human Resources for BRB Contractors, Inc. located in Topeka, Kansas. During his 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, he served several tours as the anti-terrorism/force protection officer for Marine Forces and Coalition Forces in the Middle East.
During Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm Colonel Welch was the Officer in Charge of developing security planning and anti-terrorism force protection measures for the First Marine Expeditionary Force (I-MEF). His duties also included infrastructure evaluation and assessment, force protection and emergency response/disaster control for vital industries, facilities and civilian personnel located in the vicinity of Jubayl, Saudi Arabia.
Based upon his Desert Storm experience, Colonel Welch was selected to command the Marine Rear Area Operations Group for Marine Forces Pacific and Marine Forces Central Command. The mission of this unit was to plan and execute anti-terrorism/force protection operations for the Marine Component Headquarters in CENTCOM and PACOM. During Operation Enduring Freedom, Colonel Welch was assigned as the Deputy Rear Area Commander for Combined Forces Land Component Commander (CFLCC) for operations in Afghanistan.
Upon the conclusion of his duties with CFLCC, Colonel Welch was assigned as the G-5 for Marine Forces Pacific Command and then was transferred to Iraq for service as the G-5 for Combined Joint Task Force 7. His duties as the G-5, included diplomatic and operational planning for Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez in Iraq and required detailed analysis of potential terrorist threats and methods of neutralizing those threats. Colonel Welch has completed Level 1 through Level 3 Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection Courses and has attended the Level 4 Seminar.
Colonel Welch provided security training to the Port Authority for the City of Tampa, Florida one of the nation’s busiest port facility and has conducted numerous seminars on personal security and combating terrorism.
